Colonial Ladies Tea Boycott

The Dover Century Club hosts the Colonial Ladies' Tea

On Thursday, June 4, 2026 from 5-7PM

We are opening the doors to the public for a celebration of our nation's 250th birthday by showcasing the contributions of Colonial women to the revolutionary efforts.

To that end, we plan to host a tea party as it was done in 1775. Colonial ladies led the way in boycotting British trade goods as an act of resistance to the British Crown's taxation on tea, sugar, glass and other trade goods.

The tea we shall serve will be Sassafras, raspberry and peppermint

The baked goods we shall serve will be made with cornmeal, molasses and honey. No sugar.

We shall showcase the spinning and weaving of homespun

The club's historian will present a brief history of the women's boycott activity and the public will be invited to sample our tea and cakes.

Our club president will provide an overview of the Dover Century Club's long standing tradition of community service as part of the GFWC.

This event aims to highlight women's roles in building this nation and to promote the Dover Century Club as a vital part of the local community.

The DE 250 Committee (Carolyn Forbes, Jerry Travers, Judy Allen, Kelly Adams, Nancy Hall, Kelly Adams, Christiane Warren) asks for your volunteer support and to help promote the event.

We ask for the following volunteers:

1- Greeter

2 Tea Servers

4 clean up

Tea servers and greeters should be in costume.

The members of the DE 250 committee who will be part of the event will be in historical costume.
